Château Laroze - Single Bottle 1 of 1

Château Laroze - Single Bottle

Product code: 00112482

Sorry, this item is no longer available

An impressively fresh-tasting claret from a great modern vintage, full of ripe red fruit flavours and subtle truffle notes.

Château Laroze is a relatively obscure Grand Cru Classé founded in Saint-Emilion in 1882 by George Gurchy. While the Gurchy family had been making wines in the area since 1610, the estate had to wait until 1955 to earn its Grand Cru status. The château is today owned and managed by Guy Meslin, a 5th generation descendant of George. Unusually, Château Laroze’s 27-hectare vineyard consists of one large plot of vines, planted to 68% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. The terroir here consists of sandy soils with chalk and clay sub layers. For much of the 1990s, the land was farmed to biodynamic practices; today, organic farming is followed instead. Guy Meslin has the grapes hand-picked, which he then vinifies in a mix of concrete and stainless steel fermentation tanks. After fermentation the wine is matured in French oak barrels (50% new oak) for around around 14 months to allow the wine to develop, evolve and soften.
