Produced in an area just south of Chablis, this is a steely white with the power to rival many of its more prestigious neighbours. Showing all the crunchy green apple fruit, citric acidity and pebbly minerality you'd expect of a decent Chablis, this is a vibrant and characterful Chardonnay that offers superb drinking and great value for money.
With Jean-Marc's son Julien in charge of viticulture, and winemaker Frederic Gueguen married to Céline Brocard, it is very much a hands-on, family affair at the Brocard estate, where concern for the environment and minimal use of chemical treatments is at the heart of everything they do. By sourcing grapes from top quality sites in a little-known appellation, Frederic has been able to create for us an expressive wine with a delightful sense of place yet at a fraction.
