Portuguese winemaker Frederico Vilar Gomes founded Casca Wines in 2008, sourcing grapes from single-vineyard plots to craft wines that truly represent his homeland. Today, Frederico is chief winemaker of Companhia das Quintas, which operates to much the same philosophy, only on a less boutique scale. The grapes for this wine came from the vineyards of Casa de Pancas in the Quinta de Pancas area of Lisbon. Blending local varieties Castelão and Tinta Roriz with Merlot, Frederico left the wine unoaked to highlight the quality and unique characteristics of the Western Portuguese terroir.
