THE SPARKLING
SUMMER WINE

There are certain sounds associated with June, like the whizz of Wimbledon tennis balls, but the one to be excited about is the cork popping on this bottle of bubbles, says Emma Sleight

As unlikely as it might seem, England has a similar climate and soil to that of France’s Champagne region, which means we grow some deliciously crisp grapes that are perfect for turning into exceptional fizz, such as Ridgeview Marksman sparkling wine. Named after a plane that M&S sponsored during World War II, this summery tipple is crafted in partnership with Ridgeview Wine Estate, a family-run company near Ditchling, East Sussex. With its 100 per cent chardonnay grapes and distinctively toasty character – developed over several years as the wine ages on the lees (residual yeast deposits) – Marksman pairs beautifully with our Hugh Lowe Farm strawberries, grown just 50 miles from Ridgeview’s vines.
