Editor’s Pick: the insiders’ must-haves

Get ahead for the cooler months with this elegant coat from Autograph. The beautiful blue colour will brighten any grey days, says British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman

The British winter can be so long that I’m in favour of doing everything possible to stave off the gloominess of it. So finding a coat in a colour like this is a good start. It will work brilliantly with all the off-kilter 70s colours around this season, such as tan and orange, or the more basic blacks, greys and navys. I like to fold coats around me in a comforting way, so the soft structure and sloping shoulders of this design – along with the deep pockets – are perfect. The shape is also an excellent complement to narrow trousers or pencil skirts, and it’s a good length for the knee-high boots that are taking over from ankle boots in the trend stakes.
