THE BEST OF
BRITISH DRESS

Elegant and opulent, this richly coloured jacquard shift dress gives 1960s style a modern twist and is a great statement piece for the new season, says M&S style director Belinda Earl

This is a really fabulous contemporary shift dress from our Best of British collection – it’s perfect for now and will take you effortlessly from day to night. The inspiration for the design came from a 1960s dress from our archives, which has influenced a number of pieces within the collection. For example, this jacquard fabric, which is woven in Sudbury in Suffolk, also features as a skirt and a bomber jacket. I love the fact that you could buy all three, or if you love the pattern but aren’t necessarily looking for a dress, there are other options available. I’d wear it now with bare legs and when it gets colder, add tights, boots and a navy wrap or jacket while keeping accessories to a minimum.

jacket or the skirt instead”
