THE WORLD’S BEST
CHARDONNAY

Get your hands on a champion with our Macon Villages – a winner in Decanter’s World Wine Awards and recommended by award-winning food and wine writer Fiona Beckett

I'm not surprised that this appealing white is a medal-winner. It’s the sort of crowd-pleasing wine that’s as good at a slap-up dinner party as it is for a cosy night in. Blended by M&S’s own winemaker Sue Daniels in the southern part of Burgundy, you don’t see chardonnay on the label but chardonnay it is – unoaked, smooth and peachy. It’ll go with anything creamy or buttery (think chicken with white wine and mushrooms, fish pie or salmon fishcakes). At 12.5 per cent, it’s modest in alcohol and – hallelujah! – sealed with a screwcap, which keeps it fresh. A tip: chardonnay, like cheese, shouldn’t be served fridge-cold – allow 10-15 minutes for it to develop its full flavour.
