THE TEMPRANILLO
TO TRY NOW

Like rioja? Then you should try this gutsy, cherry-rich tempranillo from one of Spain’s most interesting wine producers, Artadi

There are few red drinkers who don’t appreciate the rich juiciness of rioja. What fans might not know is how rigidly the appellation is controlled to ensure uniformity, which is why every bottle tastes so instantly recognisable. When one of the biggest names in the Spanish wine industry, Juan Carlos López de Lacalle, bought Artadi in the Alavesa region of Rioja, he argued the case for treating each harvest differently, creating wine defined by the varying terroirs in which they were made. In order to stay true to his vision, Artadi renounced its right to use the rioja label. Enter this elegant tempranillo; soft and refined from windswept, sun-soaked grapes grown on high hillsides, and complex with juicy fruit notes and warm spice from being aged in French oak barrels – this is certainly a red with personality.
