Indulge in a suitably fitting spirit to toast Ireland’s patron saint this year with our fine whisky, The Irishman
Everyone knows it’s customary to enjoy a tot (or 10) on St Patrick’s Day, but some don’t realise the tradition dates all the way back to the institution of the holiday, for which Lent restrictions on alcohol were lifted – hence the trend for over-indulging. I’m not exactly nostalgic for the days I used to drink Guinness in a pseudo-Irish pub and nowadays I’d rather savour something a little more special, like The Irishman – a small batch whisky matured in bourbon casks. If you want to keep up traditions, put a shamrock in the bottom of your glass before topping up and toasting to St Patrick – you can either swallow it or toss it over your shoulder to try to capture the luck of the Irish.
