EXPERT ADVICE

HOW TO WEAR CHINOS

Understated, underrated and, whisper it, even more versatile than jeans, here are three ways to style chinos for every occasion

Smarten up your chinos with a blazer or suit jacket

Suits are no longer the no-brainer wardrobe choice for the office. Instead, discover the new rules of hybrid workwear and embrace a pair of chinos. They closely resemble suit trousers, which makes them a reliable workwear choice, but are more casual and therefore feel so much more modern. Wear your chinos with a blazer or suit jacket in a contrasting colour to mimic a suit minus the stiffness, a cotton or linen shirt worn unbuttoned at the neck and layer a pure-cotton knit when it’s a bit chilly. Our last bit of advice: leave your tie at home.

Upgrade your weekend wardrobe with chinos

While we can all agree joggers are super comfortable, their slouchy appearance makes them a compromise in the style stakes if worn outside the house. We’ve added a touch of stretch to our cotton chinos, so no matter what you’re up to – walking to the gym, meeting friends for coffee or running errands – your trousers will move with you. Wear your chinos with a relaxed short-sleeved shirt and box-fresh white trainers to carry on the easy-to-wear vibe. Roll up the chinos to show a bit of ankle once the warmer weather arrives.

Going out in your chinos

Strike the right note on a big night out and wear your chinos with a shirt or a luxurious Supima cotton T-shirt. Skinny and slim-fit chinos in darker shades help elongate the body – team with a top from the same colour palette and you’ve got a sleek head-to-toe look. Style your chinos with a polo shirt for an on-trend preppy feel that’s special enough for a night on the tiles, pair with smart suede loafers so you won’t fall foul of any outdated ‘no trainers’ dress codes.
