Terre Di Giumara Frappato Nerello Mascalese
Vintage: 2011
Bold red with a delicious savoury sour element and mouthfilling blackcurrant, liquorice and dark chocolate fruit. Deep, lingering and lasting red, a little like a Cabernet Sauvignon but with a fascinating wilder side of rosemary and herbs. Fabulously intense Italian wine.
About this bottle: A blend of two wonderful Sicilian grapes: Frappato is locally famed for its amazing density of colour and longevity, and fruity Nerello Mascalese (Sicily's second most planted grape) contributes wild herb and tobacco characters. Winemaker Giuseppe Clementi blends these grapes equally: each makes up 50% of the wine. He ages 30% of this red in large oak tonneaux for 4 months to give complexity and smoothness

Venta Real Reserva
Vintage: 2007
Rich, mouth-filling wine, with smoky plum notes alongside dark cherry, bramble and blackcurrant fruit. There are spicy, chocolatey tannins and a touch of acidity, too, keeping the palate really lively and lingering.
About this bottle: Magdaleno Garcia Rojo has been working here at Venta Real for 30 years and he perfectly understands the land, the vines and the climate of Valdepeñas. To get the best out of his venerable 40-year old Tempranillo vines he gives their grapes a long, slow, 24-day fermentation, then rests the wine in oak barrels for at least a year. Valdepeñas means 'valley of the rocks', and this rocky landscape - carved out by the Jabalón River in sun-baked Central Spain - is the perfect terroir for heart-warming red wines.

Montaignan Malbec
Vintage: 2011
Vibrant, mouthwatering red wine full of cranberry, cherry and redcurrant fruit, highly perfumed and vividly ripe right to the finish.
About this bottle: Winemaker Xavier Roger has wine in his blood. His father, Jean Max Roger, is a respected winemaker from Sancerre, and Xavier has inherited his passion for making elegant wines. He studied for his oenology degree in Burgundy and Montpellier; then travelled to New Zealand and California to gain winemaking experience. Xavier finally settled in the Languedoc, and it is here that he makes his best wines. Malbec, one of Bordeaux's famous quintet of grapes, is equally at hom.

Alisios Tempranillo Touriga Nacional
Vintage: 2010
Mellow, delicious red wine with intense strawberry and spice aromas and a vibrant core of warm red bramble fruit. Enticing toasty oak notes and a touch of liquorice on the finish. This is deftly made red, not too heavy, but richly complete.
About this bottle: Winemaker Miguel Almeida chooses grapes from his home territory for this blend - Portuguese Touriga Nacional and Spanish Tempranillo, each 50% of the wine. These red varieties both thrive in Brazil's southern pampas region, Campanha, near the Uruguayan border. Each is famed for its complex, food-friendly reds, and blended together they develop masses of quirky mouthwatering characters that are hard to resist.
