Beguiling, aromatic red, with a fresh raspberry flavour and richer notes of blackcurrant, mulberry and pepper. Pair with spicy sausages.

ABOUT THIS WINE: Rich red made from the Zinfandel grape variety is one of California's most highly acclaimed styles of wine. This wine is Zinfandel from 40-year-old bush vines, blended with some oak-aged Petite Sirah to add further concentration and structure. The fruit was sourced from the Lodi region of California, which benefits from cool breezes from the Sacramento river delta. The winemaker was Craig Rous, who has produced wine in California for over 20 years.
SERVING: Serve at room temperature. This wine is best served with food and makes a great partner for fine barbecued meats, especially steaks, or rich beef and tomato pasta sauces. Try it with lamb curries too.
KEEPING: Although this wine is ready to drink now, it will keep for a further 2 years after purchase. Once opened, keep the resealed bottle in a cool, dark place between servings and finish within 3 days.

I've long been a fan of quality Californian wines, especially Zinfandel. However, recent belt tightening meant buying cheaper wines so I took a gamble on this - and boy, I wasn't disappointed! As soon as you open it you can smell the plummy, strawberry fruit aromas. The palate has a density of coffee and chocolate, but not at all overdone. It's a slender, more feline, come-hither kinda wine with an excellent finish that's incredibly moreish!
