Sizanani, a Xhosa word meaning 'helping each other' is the motto for this hill top operation, on gravelly Glen Rosa soil. Winemaker Wilhelm Kritzinger and his cellar hand Johnson Mgentsu work alongside over 80 staff members from deprived areas in the region, the winery's focus being to empower and uplift them.

ABOUT THIS WINE: Chile's lush Central Valley lies between the towering Andes Mountains and the coastal hills that act as a shelter from the chilly Pacific Ocean. It's an ideal place for growing healthy sun-ripened grapes. This white was blended from across different sites by experienced winemaker Rafael Tirado at Via in order to create a well-balanced style that offers excellent value for money. Rafael used careful winemaking techniques to bring out all the natural zesty character of the grapes.

SERVING: The result is this wonderfully grassy and pear-scented white that is great served chilled on its own or as a match for seafood dishes such as baked sea bass in a lime and herb sauce.

Bouches du Rhône 2010:
ABOUT THIS WINE:
This gently spicy, easy-drinking red is an intriguing hybrid. Aromatically it owes much to the classic styles of the southern Rhône, with its floral, baked red fruits and gentle spice. On the palate, though, it is less rich and warming than the nose might suggest, with an elegantly savoury, refreshingly structured character that is both food-friendly and very moreish. This is the result of some inspired winemaking by Pierre Martin at La Compagnie Rhodanienne, who blended local grape Grenache with Merlot (50%) and Cabernet (40%) from fruit grown in the Rhône delta between Arles and the Mediterranean.

SERVING:
This unoaked but full-flavoured red works very well as a match for all kinds of charcuterie or meat stews such as the local cassoulet.
