A restrained dark, brooding spicy nose but far from subdued on the palate, as the wine opens up with an almost sweet ripe fruit and gorgeous texture. The soft tannins add good structure and backbone, while traces of vanilla add to the complexity of this lovely red.

The Douro Valley to the East of Porto is regarded as one of the true wonders of the wine world. The spectacular steeply terraced vineyards that look down on the winding Douro river are the home to the grapes that go into the fortified wine Port beloved by British connoisseurs. For the last couple of decades a quiet revolution has resulted in a raft of superb quality non-fortified wines.
Pomares is such an example crafted out of the best grapes of the region, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roris (Tempranillo)
