Great belt, but tight fit

I like this belt as it could totally change a look. When it was first shown some months ago this belt was exactly what I wanted for a particular outfit. So I ordered it in a large, but found the large unusually tight. My waist felt strangled by the elastic back, so I sent it back - I wear size 14 skirt or trousers so expected a large to be OK. Should anyone think the fit has improved or is still just as bad please do review it so I can consider reordering it or not.
Otherwise M&S any chance of an extra large?
