Independent perfumer Lyn Harris, founder of fragrance house Miller Harris, has created six unique scents for M&S.

Lyn discovered her love of perfumes and fragrances working in a perfume shop in her native Halifax. 'I loved the whole fantasy behind fragrance. Being a perfumer was definitely my destiny and working in that perfume shop as a young girl was the start.'

After leaving school, her passion for perfumery grew. She moved to London and worked with a French contact she made through Aromatherapy Associates, before moving to Paris to attend a perfume school. 'From day one, I could write simple formulas and accords [balanced blends of notes]. I'd finally found something I was good at.'

Her next step was to find a fragrance house. For the next few years she worked for Robertet in Grasse, where she learnt all the house materials and developed her definitive style. 'Grasse is the perfume capital. Some of the world's best perfumers were trained there; something about that place is magical.'

After seven years she decided to go it alone. She set up a laboratory in her home in Primrose Hill and worked day and night to develop unique fragrances.

On teaming up with M&S, Lyn says 'I was completely delighted that M&S wanted me to develop a fragrance for them and they have been so amazing to work with.'
